This route dates back from 1811 as part of a a major turnpike road constructed across the area, and replaced the lesser, but extremely steep Bwlch Rhiwvelen.

You could start at Llangollen, but if you want to start further a field for a propper day out riding check the route section a selection of rides.

Note: Due to the altitiude the road travels at, it is frequently closed in winter due to heavy snowfalls.
